Monaco : Paul Pogba effectue son comeback après plus de deux ans d’arrêt

Paul Pogba has finally returned to the pitch. Two years, two months, and nineteen days after his last professional appearance, the 2018 World Cup winner played again this Saturday for AS Monaco. Coming on in the 85th minute against Stade Rennais (4-1), replacing Mamadou Coulibaly, the French midfielder thus played his first match since September 3, 2023, in an Empoli/Juventus (0-2) Serie A game. At 31 years old, he also made his Ligue 1 debut, having left Le Havre at just 16 to join Manchester United. His return was greeted with applause from the Roazhon Park crowd.

Suspended for four years by the Italian anti-doping tribunal after testing positive for DHEA, a hormone that increases testosterone levels, Paul Pogba saw his sentence reduced to eighteen months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which upheld the "unintentional" nature of the infraction. Cleared to return to competition last March, the former Juventus player signed with Monaco in June. The club then scheduled three months of rehabilitation to allow him to regain the physical condition necessary for top-level football.

This return marks an important step in Paul Pogba's attempt at a sporting renaissance, determined to relaunch his career after a long period of hardship.
