Mondial-2026: l'Afrique du Sud retarde son départ à cause d'un problème de visas
The South African team has had to delay its departure for the World Cup in North America, which begins on June 11, due to a visa problem, the national football federation (Safa) said on Sunday.
The "Bafana Bafana" team, which was due to leave Johannesburg on Sunday on a charter flight to Mexico to join its training camp, "encountered difficulties regarding the visas of some players and officials," Safa wrote in a statement.
The departure should finally take place on Monday, Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie said on X, who had previously demanded explanations and promised measures against those responsible for this "chaos".
According to the minister, while all the players have received their visas, the assistant coach, the team doctor, the head of security and another member of the staff are still waiting for the document in preparation for the World Cup organized in Mexico, the United States and Canada (June 11-July 19).
In Group A, South Africa will face Mexico in the opening match on June 11 in Mexico City, before meeting the Czech Republic a week later in Atlanta (USA) and then South Korea on June 25 in Monterrey (Mexico).
