Germany, without breaking a sweat, crushed the minnows Curaçao (7-1) in their opening match in Group E of the World Cup, Sunday in Houston.

Germany, leading 3-1 at halftime thanks to goals from Nmecha (6th minute), Schlotterbeck (38th minute), and Havertz (45th+4 minute), added four more through Musiala (47th minute), Brown (68th minute), Undav (78th minute), and Havertz again (88th minute). Comenencia had barely troubled the four-time world champions by equalizing with a fine, slightly deflected shot just before the water break (21st minute).

With this victory, Germany takes the lead in the group ahead of the match between Ivory Coast and Ecuador later in the evening.
