Retour possible de Mourinho au Real Madrid : une légende du club exprime ses doutes
The possible return of José Mourinho to Real Madrid continues to fuel debate in Spain. While several media outlets are reporting a rapprochement between the Portuguese manager and the club, Luis Figo has expressed skepticism about this potential move.
Presented as the ideal candidate to take control of a Real Madrid dressing room weakened by recent tensions, Mourinho enjoys the support of part of the board, notably president Florentino Pérez. The incidents involving Aurélien Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde, as well as the clash between Antonio Rüdiger and Alvaro Carreras, have reinforced the idea of a need for authority within the Merengue club.
But for Figo, the legendary firmness of the "Special One" isn't necessarily the right solution. The former Ballon d'Or winner believes Real Madrid needs a coach who can unite the team and manage egos in the dressing room. "I don't think Real needs a tough coach," he said at an event celebrating the partnership between La Liga and Duracell.
The former Portuguese winger also points out that the club's greatest recent successes have been achieved under more conciliatory managers, such as Zinedine Zidane, Carlo Ancelotti, and Vicente del Bosque. According to him, "the hardline approach" is not in Real Madrid's DNA.
While Mourinho remains renowned for his immense list of achievements and his successful tenure at Real Madrid, notably marked by the record-breaking 100-point La Liga title in 2012, his temperament continues to be divisive. His past conflicts with several players, such as Karim Benzema, Mesut Özil, and Paul Pogba, fuel questions about his ability to calm a squad already under pressure.
