Semaine nationale de la jeunesse 2026 : La région de Thiès à l’honneur
During a regional development committee (CRD) meeting dedicated to preparations for National Youth Week, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye, justified the choice of the Thiès region for this major event for Senegalese youth by "the artistic, cultural and sporting dynamism of the city, but also by the civic and patriotic commitment of its youth".
According to her, beyond the revival of a flagship activity, this edition reflects the will of the Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, to strengthen inclusion, citizen participation and the socio-economic development of young people, emphasizing that the particularity of the 2026 edition lies in its historical anchoring with the Youth Olympic Games (YOG).
Placed under the theme "Youth Week to the rhythm of Olympism", the event, which will bring together more than a thousand young people from the 14 regions of the country, aims to mobilize youth around Olympic values in particular: selflessness, overcoming challenges and respect for others.
However, the minister stressed the importance of a proactive and anticipatory approach, which she believes is key to success. She therefore urged stakeholders to address logistical issues diligently and rigorously: reception, accommodation, hygiene, security, healthcare coverage, and internal transport.
The competitions will feature the arts (poetry, slam poetry, theatre, visual arts) and sports, including wrestling, urban sports such as 3x3 basketball and five-a-side football, as well as brain games (quiz show, Scrabble). Digital innovation and local culinary arts will also be showcased.
Finally, this youth week will offer skateboarding and martial arts demonstrations (karate, judo, kung-fu, taekwondo).
