NBA: Gilgeous-Alexander élu MVP pour la deuxième fois
Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder) has been named MVP for the second year in a row, ESPN revealed Sunday, citing "multiple" anonymous sources, just hours before the official announcement of the award.
Gilgeous-Alexander, at 27, wins a second Michael Jordan trophy, which will therefore not go to the other two finalists, Frenchman Victor Wembanyama and Serbian Nikola Jokic, already a three-time winner.
"SGA" once again led the Thunder to the best NBA record at the end of the regular season (64 wins - 18 losses), relying on brilliant individual statistics (31.1 points, 6.6 assists on average).
Crowned champion last year, Oklahoma City is favorite for a second ring and faces Wembanyama's San Antonio Spurs on Monday in the Western Conference final.
ESPN, also a broadcaster of the North American league, therefore preempted the official announcement scheduled for 1:30 a.m. on Sunday night/Monday morning (11:30 p.m. GMT Sunday), during the broadcast before Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semi-final between the Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
