Pape Matar Sarr en feu : de Tottenham aux Lions, le Sénégal tient son maestro !

There are times when everything goes your way. Pape Matar Sarr is in those moments of grace. Scorer of Senegal's winning goal against DR Congo, the Tottenham midfielder is in the form of his life. A substitute six times in Pape Thiaw's 10 matches with the Lions, the native of Thiés is now establishing himself as the number 1 in midfield.

Some were surprised to see him on the bench against DR Congo. Rightly so, because as soon as he came on, Pape Matar Sarr proved decisive, scoring the goal to make it 3-2. A new achievement, since four days earlier, he had scored again to give Senegal a 2-0 lead against Sudan. Against South Sudan and Mauritania during this international break, the Spur will be the number one weapon in midfield.

If he has earned his place today, it is thanks to a season that started with a bang with his club Tottenham. In a new era with the arrival of Thomas Frank in place of Ange Postecoglou, Sarr has rediscovered the position of playmaker. With the absences of Maddison, Kulusevski and the failures in recruiting a "10", the Senegalese has impressed in this very important position for the Danish technician.

Since preseason, Pape Matar Sarr has excelled in the high pressing implemented by Frank. The Senegalese player has become the team's primary midfielder in the opposing half, as evidenced by his goal from midfield in the derby friendly against Arsenal. Closer to the goal, Sarr has begun to showcase his attacking talents. With pinpoint shots, deep passes, and intelligent passes, the former Metz player has become an additional offensive weapon. Including preseason, Pape Matar Sarr has already scored six goals and two assists.

In Senegal, the confidence he gained at club level is making itself felt. Often solid and diligent with the Lions, Pape Matar Sarr adds a new dimension to his game. He projects himself more, often gets closer to the goal, creates more chances, and scores more. His goal against DR Congo is the symbol of a player who is confident and in full possession of his abilities. The one against Sudan, where he was found in depth by Koulibaly, demonstrates his tactical transformation.

In full form, Pape Matar Sarr will be expected to play in the upcoming matches. This Friday against South Sudan, then Tuesday against Mauritania and especially in December for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
