Pape Thiaw: «Nous sommes déterminés pour décrocher la victoire face à l’Egypte»

On the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, the Senegalese team is preparing to face Egypt, the most successful nation in the competition's history with seven trophies. In a press conference, coach Pape Thiaw and captain Kalidou Koulibaly displayed both respect and ambition ahead of this highly anticipated clash.

Speaking to reporters, the coach first emphasized the strength of their opponent. "Tomorrow, we'll be facing a seven-star Egyptian team. They're the best team in Africa in terms of their record," he acknowledged. While aware of the Pharaohs' tactical and mental prowess, he nevertheless assured everyone that Senegal would approach the match with determination: "We're playing this match with respect and ambition. We know we'll be up against a very strong team, used to these kinds of matches. But we're determined to get this victory and reach the final, while remaining true to our playing philosophy."

For his part, captain Kalidou Koulibaly emphasized the experience of the Egyptian team, composed of players accustomed to African competitions. "It's a team we know very well, very experienced, with players who are used to playing in the Africa Cup of Nations," he explained. He also noted that Egypt had progressed through the competition quietly: "People were mainly talking about Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, or Nigeria, but rarely about Egypt. They've earned their place and they fully deserve to be here."

Despite everything, the Lions' central defender remains confident: "It's going to be a big match against a team that is the African champion and respected on the continent. But we're going to play to our strengths. We know we're capable of causing them problems, we've done it before and we're going to try to do it again tomorrow, God willing."
