«Pourquoi j’ai refusé l’invitation de Lekjaa» : Walid Regragui répond à la polémique avec le nouveau sélectionneur du Maroc
In an interview with the Moroccan media outlet "AlMountakhab," former Atlas Lions coach Walid Regragui addressed the controversy that arose after he refused to take the stage during the official presentation of the new national team coach, Mohamed Ouahbi. This situation fueled speculation about possible tensions between the two coaches.
In response to the rumors, Regragui clarified the reasons for his action, assuring everyone that it was in no way a sign of disagreement or unease. According to him, his decision was simply aimed at giving the new coach the spotlight during this symbolic moment for the national team.
The former head of the Moroccan bench explained that the president of the federation had offered him the opportunity to participate in the ceremony. "The president of the federation invited me to go up on the stage to participate in the presentation of my colleague Mohamed Ouahbi, the new national coach, but I refused to go up," he confided.
For Regragui, the presentation of a national team coach is a defining moment in a coach's career. "I consider the presentation of a national team coach to be a historic moment that will remain etched in memories, and therefore no one should overshadow him at that moment," he explained.
The former coach of the Atlas Lions also emphasized that this decision was made out of respect for his successor. "By refusing to go on stage, I simply respected Ouahbi's right to present his show in private, and he understood that perfectly," he asserted, thus dismissing any notion of tension between the two men.
