Prestianni suspendu après l’incident avec Vinicius : La réaction du président de Benfica Lisbonne
Gianluca Prestianni has been provisionally suspended by UEFA for "violating Article 14 of its Disciplinary Regulations concerning discriminatory conduct." The Benfica Lisbon player is accused of having uttered racist insults towards his Real Madrid teammate Vinicius Jr. during the first leg of the Champions League 2026 playoffs. This UEFA sanction has been criticized by Benfica Lisbon president Rui Costa.
"Nothing has been proven."
The club president believes that no evidence has yet incriminated his player. "We cannot play Prestianni. Yet we know that nothing has been proven and that the player's absence for (the second leg) is unjustified," said Rui Costa. He added that his player is not a racist.
“I wasn’t on the pitch to know what was said or not. In a situation like this, a lot of things can be said. We trust our players’ word; above all, we know our players well. Prestianni has been called a racist, but he is anything but racist, I can assure you,” stated the Benfica president. “We are waiting for the conclusions of the investigation opened by UEFA to get a clearer picture,” he added.
