Real Madrid: Pérez annonce l'arrivée de Konaté et de Mourinho s'il est réélu président
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, a candidate for re-election, said on Wednesday that French defender Ibrahima Konaté and coach José Mourinho would be his first signings if he wins Sunday's election.
"If I am re-elected president on Sunday, I can assure you that one of the best defenders in the world, Konaté, will play for Real Madrid next season," the Spanish businessman said in an interview with the sports daily AS.
In the same interview published Wednesday evening, Florentino Pérez asserts that "Mourinho and Konaté" will be "his first signings", confirming the video published earlier by his campaign account, announcing the return of the Portuguese coach to the bench in the event of victory on Sunday at the polls against Enrique Riquelme.
Out of contract with Liverpool, Konaté, 27, had been announced for several months as the main target of the Spanish giant to strengthen its defence, at the end of a second season without a major title.
The French international (27 caps), runner-up at the 2022 World Cup, is currently preparing for the 2026 World Cup with Les Bleus and had not wished to discuss his future.
Asked in this interview about his plan in case of re-election, Florentino Pérez also promised that the three Madrid stars Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham "will stay at Real Madrid" next season if he is president.
