Sénégal–Soudan : Le coach Pape Thiaw fait le point sur le retour de Mané et de Mendy, et sur l'état du groupe
On the eve of the Senegal-Sudan match, counting for the 7th day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Lions coach Pape Thiaw gave an update on the state of his squad at a press conference. Good news for the staff: Édouard Mendy trained normally and will be available. "Yesterday, it was closed, but he trained. He is fit and at my disposal. You will know tomorrow if he will be a starter," the coach said.
Absent from Tuesday's session due to a mild bout of flu, Pape Matar Sarr has also recovered and rejoined the squad. "We have the full squad," confirmed Pape Thiaw, reassured by the condition of his players.
The Lions are aiming for a third consecutive World Cup appearance. "It's an extra motivation. I've played in a World Cup, I know what that means for a player. Some have already played two, others only one, and for some it might be a first," Pape Thiaw said.
While the next opponent is the Democratic Republic of Congo, the coach insists on the importance of not rushing things. "The most important thing is tomorrow's match. Sudan has held its place for a long time. We must win this match before thinking about the other one," the coach concluded.
The Lions intend to rely on the experience of their senior players and the depth of their bench to win against the Nile Crocodiles and move closer to their goal: securing a place at the 2026 World Cup.
