Supporters sénégalais détenus au Maroc : Motsepe évoque une «responsabilité» de la CAF et promet des démarches
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has broken his silence regarding the 18 Senegalese supporters currently detained in Morocco. Speaking on the sidelines of an official visit, he acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation while expressing the African governing body's willingness to get involved.
"They were arrested in the stadium, so it is our responsibility as organizers," Motsepe said, stressing that the events took place within a framework directly related to the organization of African football.
The South African official also emphasized the legitimacy of the calls for the fans' release. "The release of the 18 Senegalese fans is a completely legitimate request," he stated, adding that this demand is shared by many observers of African football.
However, Motsepe emphasized that resolving this situation goes beyond purely sporting considerations. According to him, "high-level diplomatic discussions" are essential to achieving a positive outcome. This underscored the crucial involvement of the relevant state authorities, particularly between Senegal and Morocco.
Despite the complexity of the case, the CAF president assured that this matter remains a major concern for his institution. "This situation is a concern for us at CAF," he concluded.
