Sports : Khady Diène Gaye met en garde Djirèye Clotilde Coly contre les...
At the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Khady Diène Gaye handed over the reins to Djirèye Clotilde Coly this Thursday. While the outgoing minister presented a positive assessment, highlighting the reforms undertaken, the sporting achievements recorded, and the progress of preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), she also issued several warnings to the new head of Senegalese sport.
Khady Diène Gaye specifically called on her successor to be vigilant regarding certain figures in the sports world. "You are in an environment where some people, instead of serving sport, are using sport for their own ends. I'm warning you. You will be confronted with this kind of situation. If you take measures against their interests, you'll face smear campaigns and criticism. And sometimes, they involve the sports press," she stated, clarifying that this did not apply to "all the press."
The former minister, quoted by L'Observateur, also denounced the existence of "lobbies" which, according to her, hinder reforms when their interests are threatened. "You are in an environment where there are lobbies that are present and are never willing to move things forward as long as they feel their interests are threatened," she added.
To succeed at the head of the department, Khady Diène Gaye believes the priority lies in "respecting the schedule for renewing governing bodies, regardless of the federation or sports movement." She specifically mentioned the National Olympic Committee, whose "mandate ended a few months ago," considering it "a foundation upon which your success rests."
