"Elles sont gérées par des cinglés de gauche": Trump envisage de modifier des villes hôtes de la Coupe du monde 2026
Donald Trump has opened the door to relocating some matches of the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The US president said on Thursday that the security of World Cup participants could be compromised in some cities administered by his political opponents.
US President Donald Trump said Thursday he is prepared to move matches of the 2026 World Cup (June 11-July 19) originally scheduled for cities he deems unsafe to other venues if necessary.
"Well, that's an interesting question," the head of state said during a session with reporters in the Oval Office at the White House, as quoted by the New York Times . "But we're going to make sure they're secure. They're run by left-wing lunatics who don't know what they're doing."
Before specifying: "Security will be assured for the World Cup. If I judge that it is not, we will move (matches) to other cities."
Held in Canada, Mexico, and 11 cities across the United States, the 2026 World Cup poses a significant logistical challenge for both FIFA and the Trump administration. Beyond weather-related risks , as was already the case during the Club World Cup with significant thunderstorms, security issues will be a major concern for organizers.
"If we think that a city is going to be, even just a little bit, unsafe for the World Cup or the Olympic Games (in Los Angeles in 2028, editor's note) but especially for the World Cup because the competition is spread across so many cities, we will not let the games take place, we will move them a little bit," Donald Trump added, denouncing in particular the crime statistics of Chicago... which is not listed as a host of the 2026 World Cup.
Major Democratic strongholds are among the cities set to host matches in the upcoming FIFA World Cup. No fewer than eight games are scheduled in Los Angeles, while Seattle and San Francisco will each host six matches during the summer tournament.
The Trump administration deployed the National Guard this year to maintain order in some Democratic-run cities, including Los Angeles, despite the objections of local officials.
President Trump has appointed himself head of the White House task force for the World Cup , a competition run by the International Football Federation and which has so far enjoyed the unwavering support of the body headed by Gianni Infantino.
