Transfert : Manchester City casse sa tirelire pour Antoine Semenyo
A revelation in the first half of the Premier League season, Antoine Semenyo has taken a major step in his career. Sought after by several top English clubs, the Ghanaian international striker has finally opted for Manchester City, who officially announced his signing on Wednesday.
Having arrived at Bournemouth in January 2023, Semenyo quickly established himself as one of the Cherries' attacking pillars. Under the guidance of Andoni Iraola, the 26-year-old has truly blossomed. Last season, he already posted impressive statistics with 11 goals and 5 assists in 37 appearances. But it is especially during the current campaign that he has confirmed his full potential.
Delivering consistently high-level performances, Semenyo made his mark from the very first matchday with a decisive brace at Anfield, before also scoring at Old Trafford. In the league, he was directly involved in 13 of Bournemouth's 34 goals, contributing 10 goals and 3 assists. These performances did not go unnoticed by the Premier League giants.
Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all expressed interest in signing him. The player's release clause, set at €70 million and only valid from January 1st to 10th, accelerated negotiations. Very quickly, the Manchester United option gained momentum.
Before turning the page, Semenyo gave Bournemouth fans one last thrilling moment. On Wednesday, he scored a 95th-minute goal against Tottenham, securing a precious 3-2 victory for his team. Manchester City then announced his signing.
"Manchester City is pleased to confirm the signing of Antoine Semenyo from AFC Bournemouth. The 26-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, until 2031," the English club announced.
According to The Athletic, the transfer fee is €72 million, plus €1.7 million in bonuses and a 10% sell-on clause. This is simply the biggest sale in Bournemouth's history.
With this signing, Pep Guardiola further strengthens his already impressive attacking lineup, which includes Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki, Jérémy Doku, and Savinho. For Semenyo, this transfer marks a turning point: he leaves a mid-table club to join one of the best teams in Europe and take his career to a new level on the continental stage.
