Qualifications Coupe du monde féminine U20 : les Lioncelles s’inclinent de justesse face au Nigeria
On Saturday, while playing in Abeokuta, Nigeria, the Senegal U20 women's national team suffered a narrow defeat against Nigeria (1-0) in the first leg of the third round of World Cup qualifying.
Facing a solid and experienced Nigerian side, the Lionesses delivered a courageous performance, but ultimately succumbed by the narrowest of margins. A frustrating defeat, but far from insurmountable, as the gap remains slim heading into the second leg.
Thanks to this close score, Senegal's qualification hopes remain alive. Coach Mbayang Thiam's team will have the opportunity to turn the tide on February 14th, in the return leg scheduled for the Lat Dior Stadium in Thiès, in front of their home crowd.
Following this third round, sixteen teams will secure their place in the fourth and final round of qualifiers. Ultimately, only four African teams will represent CAF at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, a global competition that will bring together 24 nations from the six confederations.
