Vers une CAN au Botswana et en Afrique du Sud en 2028?
As the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations draws to a close with the Senegal-Morocco final on Sunday, eyes are already turning towards the 2028 AFCON. Two countries are candidates.
A CAF executive committee meeting was held today in Rabat, 48 hours before the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The organization of the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations was discussed at this meeting. According to several South African journalists, two countries, Botswana and South Africa, have submitted a joint bid to host the tournament.
Last edition before the switch to every four years
The details regarding the allocation of matches are still to be determined, but South Africa could also participate independently or due to logistical issues. The next edition is scheduled for 2027 and will take place in three countries: Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
This will be the last Africa Cup of Nations before the switch to a four-year format, as announced by the Confederation of African Football on December 20th. CAF President Patrice Motsepe of South Africa will hold a press conference this Saturday at 1 p.m.
