Ziguinchor : Le Tour international de la Casamance en eau trouble, les organisateurs alertent
The Tour International de la Casamance, initiated as part of peacebuilding efforts and the revitalization of tourism, including the 5th edition of this event for Senegalese and international cyclists, is facing uncertainty. The organizing committee is questioning the feasibility of holding the sporting event just days before the competition is scheduled to begin.
Originally scheduled for December 1st to 7th, the Casamance International Tour is at risk of not taking place on those dates unless the initial schedule is revised. The reason: the budget is not yet finalized.
Ibrahima Diassy, coordinator of the Casamance International Tour, admits that the main problem remains financial resources. The organization is facing a financial deficit, he noted.
"Many organizations have been contacted by mail, but unfortunately, these institutions have not yet responded. These letters have been delivered in Dakar since June to numerous organizations, ministries, institutions, etc. Only the National Assembly, through its vice-president, and the Prime Minister's office, which recommended a letter to the Minister of Tourism, have responded, but without any concrete financial commitment to date. The Minister of Tourism has not yet been contacted directly. LONASE, the Autonomous Port of Dakar, and the ministers of Casamance, Olivier Boucal and Yankhoba Djémé, have not responded to the requests," Ibrahima Diassy emphasized.
Ibrahima Diassy fears a "huge general disappointment" for the European and sub-regional teams that have already arrived or are on their way.
In view of the situation, Ibrahima Diassy calls on the authorities to "come to the aid of saving face" and avoid a major disappointment for this competition, which is in its fifth edition and has completed all the administrative procedures.
