The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, inaugurated the Bignona urban police station on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. This new infrastructure is part of the Diomaye Program for Casamance and aims to strengthen security in the southern region.
On this occasion, Mayor Bakary Diatta expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing that the establishment of the police station had been a long-standing demand of the residents of Bignona. He encouraged the inhabitants to take ownership of this infrastructure and to support the police in their mission to secure the area.
A commission for international standards
For his part, the Minister of the Interior explained that the opening of this building is part of the Diomaye Program for Casamance. This initiative reflects a firm commitment to pacifying the area while strengthening the fight against delinquency and serious crime that plague the region.
Attorney Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé indicated that, as part of a strategy to strengthen the national police force and enhance community policing, the police station was designed according to international standards. It thus provides law enforcement with a modern working environment adapted to the requirements of public safety.
A security network extending across the entire territory
He also announced the upcoming opening of other similar facilities nationwide. He assured that, in accordance with the strategy implemented by the General Directorate of the National Police (DGPN), each department in the country will soon have an urban police station.
This vision demonstrates the authorities' desire to bring police services closer to citizens and to ensure optimal security coverage across the country.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Inspector General of Police Mame Seydou Ndour, Director General of the National Police, who traveled to the event to underscore its importance. Also present were police, administrative, military, religious, and traditional authorities from the region.
The event was concluded with a parade of law enforcement officers, symbolizing the commitment and determination of the police to ensure the safety and tranquility of the people of Bignona and the entire Casamance region.
According to Seneweb sources, Commissioner Albert Ndior, formerly head of the Bambey urban police station, will take command of this new Bignona police station.
