Maintien de l’ordre : la gendarmerie renforce les capacités de ses unités de cavalerie
The National Gendarmerie concluded a training session on Thursday, March 5, 2026, dedicated to the use of horses in law enforcement and public order missions. This training is part of a partnership between the National Gendarmerie of Senegal and the Italian Carabinieri, Seneweb learned from Colonel Ibrahima Ndiaye.
Organized from February 23 to March 6, 2026, the training course benefited members of the Mounted Cavalry Group (GCM) and the Gendarmerie Intervention Legion (LGI). In total, 101 gendarmes took part in the training, including 26 from the GCM and 75 from the LGI.
This session aimed to strengthen the operational capabilities of personnel in the use of horses during security operations and public order management. Participants were also trained in stress management and conducting missions in often demanding environments.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General Jean Bertrand Bocandé, commander of the mobile gendarmerie. On this occasion, he commended the smooth running of the training and praised the rigor and professionalism of the participants. He also expressed his gratitude to the Italian instructors for the quality of their guidance.
Through this type of initiative, the National Gendarmerie intends to continue strengthening the skills of its specialized units in order to better meet the constantly evolving security challenges.
