Préfet de Thiès : "Sur les questions de sécurité, nous ne ménagerons aucun effort pour faire respecter la loi"
In Thiès, eviction operations began early this morning. According to the departmental prefect, "this is an operation to clear the public highway, which is the subject of an anarchic occupation."
According to him, "at present, no one is unaware of the summons that have been given to free up the right-of-way of the road and the pavement."
But, laments Mame Less Cabou, "we find that there are still some recalcitrant people who are waiting for us to be on the ground to make decisions. This is an activity that we carry out in conjunction with the sub-prefects of the different districts of Thiès, the mayors, the delegates of the different markets and other partners such as the police, the ASP, volunteers among others."
The prefect is nevertheless pleased with the support "of citizens who understand the meaning of our mission today, which we will carry out with firmness. We warn: this is the umpteenth time that we are carrying out this type of operation, but the problem is the follow-up."
But, Mr. Cabou emphasizes, "they should know that this time, we are determined to ensure proper follow-up and we will enforce the law in this matter, because occupying public roads without authorization is an offense punishable and sanctioned by the Penal Code and we intend to enforce the provisions of this code."
To this end, the prefect informs that the authority will "reorganize public space. For security reasons, we will spare no effort to enforce the law."
