The General Directorate of Penitentiary Administration organised an annual coordination meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in the “Controller Djénaba Samba” room.

This meeting aimed to review the past year and define strategic directions for the current year.

A mobilization of all managers

This important meeting brought together around the Director General of the Penitentiary Administration (DGAP), Inspector Aliou Ciss, the Deputy Director General, the Director of the National School of Penitentiary Administration, the directors and heads of central services, the 37 directors of penitentiary establishments in Senegal as well as the 6 regional directors of the Penitentiary Administration.

A busy agenda

The objective of this meeting was to review the past year and to provide guidance for the current year. Participants addressed several strategic points, including the development of the Penitentiary Administration's strategic plan for 2029, the staff situation, the prison situation, achievements, activities to prepare for social reintegration, as well as the difficulties encountered and prospects for improving staff working conditions and detention conditions.

Clear guidelines for 2026

The Director General of the Penitentiary Administration gave instructions and guidelines for the current year, emphasizing the need to strengthen collaboration between the different services to achieve the set objectives.

This meeting provided an opportunity to review the challenges and opportunities for the Prison Administration and to define strategic priorities for 2026, in a context marked by the desire to improve both the working conditions of agents and the conditions of detention of incarcerated persons.
