Faced with the increase in incidents of post-fight violence that compromise this cultural heritage, the national police has decided to suspend until further notice the security coverage of wrestling sessions. Here is the press release made public by the Police Communication Division.

"Subject: Stop until further notice security coverage of wrestling matches

On Sunday, February 16, 2025, during the wrestling match between Franc and Ama BALDE, at the national arena, many fans who had bought their tickets were unable to access the arena. The maximum capacity reached, the National Police officials decided to close the doors to prevent any possibility of tragedy.

The ensuing outbreak of violence continued after the verdict and resulted in acts of vandalism, damage to public and private property, and other attacks on property and people, the most regrettable of which was the fatal assault of a young man in the suburbs of Dakar.

Following this umpteenth failure by the National Wrestling Management Committee (CNG) and the actors involved, to comply with the injunctions and recommendations made to them, in particular regarding compliance with timetables, observation of the gauge and the definition of routes offering less risk of confrontations between groups of supporters, the Minister of the Interior and Public Security has decided to halt until further notice the security coverage of wrestling matches throughout the national territory"
