Space technology is now emerging as a tool of power and security in state strategies. In Senegal, geointelligence is gradually being integrated into public management practices, in a context where data mastery is becoming central to monitoring territories, anticipating risks, and supporting decision-making. It was within this framework that the 2nd edition of Senegal Space Week was held, dedicated to "geointelligence, security, and defense." This theme illustrates a clear evolution: space technologies are now fully integrated into discussions on sovereignty and national security.

For the authorities, the balance of power between states is evolving with the increasing importance of technology and data. The Minister of the Armed Forces, Birame Diop, reiterated on this occasion that "space constitutes the new frontier of power." In this context, security is no longer limited to traditional military means: it includes border surveillance, maritime security, the fight against asymmetric threats, cybersecurity, and natural disaster management.

The director of the Senegalese Agency for Space Studies (ASES), Maram Kaïré, highlights the concrete applications of space data. This data is destined to be used directly in several strategic sectors, such as agriculture, health, the environment, and land-use planning. He also mentions ongoing projects related to satellite development and the establishment of a space data processing center designed to improve territorial observation and analysis. However, the main obstacle remains the lack of skills. Engineers, data specialists, and artificial intelligence experts are still lacking to support this momentum. Without these qualified professionals, the ambitions associated with space remain limited in their practical implementation.
