Exploration de la Lune et de Mars : Le Sénégal se positionne
Fifty-five years after the last voyage to the moon, the global space community is planning a new exploration, and is also planning a trip to Mars. Senegal does not intend to remain a bystander in these upcoming space expeditions.
Interviewed by TV5 Monde, Maram Kairé, Director General of the Senegalese Agency for Space Studies (ASES), hopes to position Senegal among the decision-making countries. "If we take NASA or CNES in France, that's 60 years of space exploration. We, Senegal, have just arrived (ASES was created two years ago) and must have fairly high ambitions. We intend to sit at the table. The best way to avoid being sidelined in the planned space exploration is to be at the negotiating table. Senegal's role today is to contribute to decisions and discussions," he says, counting on the many Senegalese experts in Dakar and around the world.
Maram Kairé also hopes to develop other sectors through the use of satellites, particularly precision agriculture. However, he regrets that countries like Senegal lack the infrastructure to enable local education in astronomy.
