Affaire Starlink : Les syndicats de Sonatel (Orange), Yas et Expresso annoncent un front
The Coordination of Telecom Operators' Unions has just stepped forward to officially comment on the Starlink affair. Composed of the Sonatel Workers' Union (Syts), the Sonatel and Expresso sections of the National Union of Postal and Telecommunications Workers of Senegal (Sntpt) and the National Union of Sentel Workers (Yas), the said Coordination announces a united front.
Indeed, she wants to know how much Starlink, "whose owner is 20 times richer than Senegal, paid to enter the Senegalese market." She then asks why there was no call for tenders. The unions that comprise her also demand to know the type of operating regime under which Starlink operates in Senegal and what authorization license it was granted.
The other question they pose to the authorities concerns the content of the specifications. "Do our authorities consider it an ISP comparable to Sonatel, Yas, and Expresso, or an ISP comparable to ARC and WAAW?" the unions ask in their press release sent to Seneweb. For them, these are all questions to which the Senegalese government is struggling to provide answers.
"It is not at all about us standing against competition, but rather about demanding transparency in a sector as vital and strategic for our nation as the digital sector. How can the State make public the amounts of the licenses of operators and ISPs and become silent on the subject of Starlink?", ask the trade union structures who doubt that the State has sovereignly defended the interest of the country.
The coordinating body of telecom operators' unions has announced the launch, in the coming days, of a National Front for Transparency and Digital Sovereignty. This will be accompanied by a series of meetings with all digital stakeholders, civil society, and all key players in the nation, they stated.
