Hausse de tarifs : comment les Sénégalais ont fait reculer Starlink
Starlink made a complete U-turn between two messages to its subscribers. The first informed them of a 43% increase, effective June 18, in the monthly subscription fee for their satellite internet service, rising from 30,000 to 42,995 CFA francs. The reasons given were: increased network capacity, expanded coverage, improved service stability, and rising global operating costs.
The announcement sparked outrage on social media. "Several internet users denounced what they considered a brutal price increase. [...] Some users also questioned the logic of such a decision while Starlink is still expanding and conquering the local market," reports Les Échos, which broke the story.
Faced with the outcry from its Senegalese subscribers, Elon Musk's company revised its position in a statement released shortly after the price increase was announced, regretting "the confusion and inconvenience caused" by the announcement. However, as Les Échos points out, Starlink emphasizes that "a price adjustment is planned in the near future" and that its customers will be notified.
