On Wednesday, a man was fatally struck by a Regional Express Train (TER). The accident occurred around 6:15 a.m. The man had entered the railway property before being hit by the train between the Thiaroye and Pikine stations.
"Despite the rapid intervention of the teams present on site, this incident unfortunately resulted in the death of the person," indicate Seter (Société d'Exploitation du TER) and Senter (Société Nationale de Gestion du Patrimoine du Train Express Régional).
In a statement seen by Seneweb, they explain that as soon as the accident occurred, all emergency procedures were immediately activated.
"The SETER teams, in coordination with the National Fire Brigade and the Railway Transport Gendarmerie Legion, permanently present in the 13 TER stations, were fully mobilized to secure the area and shed full light on the circumstances of this event," the statement said.
Senter and Seter state that this type of accident remains rare on the TER network. Nevertheless, "each situation is taken with the utmost seriousness, with strict procedures aimed at guaranteeing the safety of passengers, local residents and staff," they say, reminding the public that access to the railway tracks is strictly prohibited.
