Sécurité routière : L’État durcit les règles pour les minicars
The Minister of Land Transport, Yankoba Diémé, has taken a series of targeted measures to strengthen road safety around 12-19 seat minibuses, often referred to as "Cheikhou Chérifou" because of their intensive use in intercity and peri-urban transport.
Faced with the persistence of often fatal accidents involving these vehicles, the government has decided to put an end to the anarchy surrounding their operation, judging that the high average age of the fleet and dangerous practices - overloading, speeding or illegal transport of passengers - constitute a major risk for users.
Among the immediate measures planned: mandatory recall in Dakar of all minibuses with 12 to 19 seats for a comprehensive technical inspection over a two-month period. Only compliant vehicles will then be allowed to circulate. Centralization of the registration of new vehicles to better regulate their entry into service. Strengthening of the fight against overloading, with the requirement for vehicles to have adequate interior luggage space.
The requirement to use official bus stations, a measure designed to combat the illegal and unregulated exploitation of passengers. Increased roadside checks and a crackdown on unlicensed transport, also known as "street hailing." Greater awareness among drivers regarding safety regulations and adherence to the Highway Code.
In the medium term, the minister also announced technological tools to better regulate the sector: video ticketing to automatically penalize traffic offences; GPS trackers on vehicles to limit speed and a gradual renewal of the vehicle fleet deemed outdated by the authorities.
These announcements are part of a broader policy to combat road insecurity adopted by the government, which aims to reduce the number of tragedies on national roads and to professionalize public transport for people.

Il faut plomber leur compteur à 85km/h. C'est largement suffisant pour voyager en commun au Sénégal
Les contreventions ne dépassant pas 12000 donc les gens conduisent comme ils veulent sachant juste qu’ils faudraient débourser juste une petite somme pour récupérer son permis
et ne pas modifier la position du volant s'il est à droite cela déséquilibre le véhicule facilement lors des virages ou en cas de pneu éclaté
interdire les bagages en haut, plus la hauteur du véhicule est allongée, plus il fait des tonneaux au moins virage ou coup de volant brusque parce que la largeur du modèle est trop petite par rapport à sa hauteur
Mr le ministre, vous êtes complètement passé à côté. Les mesures devraient concerner les chauffeurs, il faut des sanctions. Les agents des circulations ont une part de responsabilité puisqu'ils préfèrent de la corruption à la place des sanctions. Il faut sensibiliser et sanctionner.
