Accusée de racisme, Karine Le Marchand se dit « fière d’être à moitié noire »
French television presenter Karine Le Marchand is at the center of a heated controversy following her remarks on immigration on CNews. Her personal testimony broadcast on February 9th sparked strong reactions.
His remarks were deemed stigmatizing and racist by many viewers and associations, causing an outcry on social media and prompting a complaint to the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (ARCOM).
The interview in question, given to Pascal Praud, was about his documentary "The New French, 100 Years of Immigration".
It all started with a personal memory she shared on set, specifically her arrival in Paris in the 1980s, after growing up in Nancy. "I saw the RER train arrive. I saw all those Black and Arab people getting off. I couldn't help but feel a little scared..."
Members of Parliament contacted ARCOM after the interview aired, deeming her remarks racist. Karine Le Marchand clarified that her comments had been taken out of context, describing herself as "half-Black and proud of it."
"Your hatred doesn't affect me. To all the pseudonymous polemicists who insult me, I don't see your messages. I'm sorry. Besides, I couldn't care less," she replied to her detractors.
