Young people from the Petit Thialy neighborhood recently protested the alleged land grabbing of their soccer field. This followed rumors that the Petit Thialy school would be relocated to the area. These young people had threatened to use all means necessary to counter the move.
In response to these rumors, the mayor of Thiès-Nord has clarified the situation. This Tuesday, during the ceremony to distribute school supplies to schools in his commune, Mamadou Diakhaté announced that the young people of Petit Thialy had received false information. In reality, the town hall did not take over the football field.
The mayor emphasizes that this site is made up of two fields and that the one that is to house the school infrastructure does not concern the football field.
Mamadou Diakhaté also pledged to support the neighborhood's youth in their sporting activities. He immediately disbursed 12 million CFA francs to subsidize the community's youth sports organizations.
