ENFANTS VIVANT AVEC UN HANDICAP : VDEV APPELLE À UNE MEILLEURE PRISE EN CHARGE
Children and young people living with disabilities continue to face significant obstacles in Thiès. These include: limited access to orthopedic equipment, shortcomings in inclusive education, and high costs of specialized care.
To raise awareness and propose solutions, the organization Voix des Enfants Vulnérables (VDEV) brought together local authorities and community actors at a workshop dedicated to diagnosing needs, identifying challenges and developing recommendations and an action plan.
El Hadji Baytir Samba, founder of VDEV, emphasized the need to place children with disabilities (aged 0 to 18) at the heart of public policy. He called on the government and social services to systematically integrate their needs into all infrastructure, stressing the urgent need for a national census. "Without reliable data, it is impossible to make informed decisions or provide appropriate support," he asserted. According to him, disability should no longer be a factor of exclusion: "These children are also children of Senegal. They have the right to education, health, and dignity. Inclusion must not be a slogan, but a reality."
