Fredy N: The Senegalese Voice That Connects Cultures Through Music

Fredy N is a Senegalese singer, songwriter, composer and guitarist whose music sensitively blends Afro Folk, Indie and Pop. Born and raised in Dakar, Senegal, he grew up in a rich cultural environment where traditional African music, gospel, soul, hip-hop and acoustic song intersected.

His first artistic steps were in rap and breakdancing before he discovered singing in a choir at the age of 16. This experience profoundly shaped his relationship with music and nurtured his taste for vocal harmonies and emotionally charged storytelling. A year later, a classical guitar given to him by his uncle became his instrument of choice and accompanied him in writing his first compositions.

Inspired by artists such as Tracy Chapman, Wasis Diop, Cheikh Lô, Eric Clapton, Daara J and James Blunt, Fredy N gradually developed a unique identity where acoustic melodies, African influences and contemporary songwriting meet.

Based in Paris, he released his first EP, Odyssey , in 2018. The project received airplay on several Senegalese radio and television stations and also attracted the attention of MTV Base Francophone thanks to his track Tears and Smiles .

Today, Fredy N is preparing the release of his second EP, titled 1960. Performed primarily in Wolof, this project explores themes of identity, memory, transmission, and cultural heritage. Through intimate and universal lyrics, the artist examines the connection between generations and the place of the individual within a history that transcends them.

Following Ngelaw , an ode to the fragility of life and the strength of the breath that animates us, Fredy N unveils Soxna , an excerpt that celebrates woman, her strength, her grace, and her essential role in the transmission of values and memory. Then comes Takander , a musical film produced under the creative signature of AADA. In Wolof, "Takander" means both "reflection" and "offspring." This work explores the father-son relationship as a space of transmission where the child becomes simultaneously a mirror, an heir, and an extension of oneself.

Through his music and visual creations, Fredy N constructs a profoundly human artistic universe where personal stories become universal narratives. His work invites us to reflect on what we receive, what we pass on, and what remains as time passes.
