Inauguration du poste de santé rénové de Grand Yoff : un nouveau souffle pour la santé de proximité
In Grand Yoff, the quality of healthcare depends not only on medical expertise. For a long time, the staff at the health post had to contend with aging facilities, cramped spaces, and insufficient equipment in the face of ever-increasing patient volume. To address these challenges, the facility, completely renovated and equipped by the Sonatel Foundation, was officially inaugurated on Friday, December 26, 2025.
Before its renovation, the facility faced significant challenges: outdated premises, a lack of functional spaces, and precarious living conditions. These realities limited its capacity to provide care and weighed heavily on the daily lives of caregivers, despite their unwavering commitment.
The completed renovations have modernized the infrastructure, improved hygiene standards, and increased patient capacity. The health post has also been equipped with essential medical equipment. This transformation aims to meet the growing needs of the population of Grand Yoff and the surrounding neighborhoods, while providing staff with a dignified and suitable working environment.
During his speech, Madiop Diop, mayor of the Grand Yoff municipality, praised a structuring initiative for his community.
“With a population of over 200,000, this health post is a frontline service. Its renovation had become an absolute necessity. It now allows us to improve the quality of care and to recognize the essential role of the staff, who until now worked in very difficult conditions,” he said.
Ms. Touré Sow, administrator of the Sonatel Foundation, recalled that this action is part of a global strategy to support basic social infrastructure.
“The Sonatel Foundation intervenes where targeted improvement can have a direct and lasting impact. In addition to renovation, we support the equipping of centers, free consultation campaigns, as well as specific initiatives for maternal, child health and vulnerable populations,” she explained.
The ceremony, marked by the traditional ribbon-cutting and a guided tour of the premises, symbolizes the reopening of enhanced healthcare facilities. Through this partnership between the Sonatel Foundation and the municipality, emphasis is placed on the importance of investing in existing infrastructure to guarantee sustainable access to care and support healthcare workers, the true pillars of the healthcare system.
