Inondations à Dakar : La Fondation Sonatel soutient les familles impactées

After traveling through several areas of Senegal, including Touba, Diourbel and Kaolack, the Sonatel Foundation awarded, this Tuesday, September 23, 2025, 143 food and hygiene kits to families affected by the floods in the Dakar region, at the El Hadj Ndiouga Dieng socio-cultural center in Bargny, to close the final phase of the Emergency Solidarity Plan (SUR) 2025. The deputy prefect of Rufisque, Modou Samb, representing the governor of the Dakar region, received this support on behalf of the beneficiaries, from the hands of the general administrator of the Sonatel Foundation, Coura Sow.

"It is a civic duty for Sonatel, through its foundation, its social arm, to stand alongside populations affected by flooding, high water levels, and coastal erosion. We are pleased to present these donations today, consisting of food and hygiene kits," said Ms. Sow. The Sonatel Foundation's support includes 143 food and hygiene kits. "Each beneficiary will receive a 25-kg bag of rice, a 25-kg bag of millet, 5 kg of sugar, 5 liters of oil, a carton of soap, a carton of bleach, 15 10-liter bottles of Kirène water, and a mat," said Coura Sow, administrator of the Sonatel Foundation.

The governor's representative, Modou Samb, deputy prefect of Rufisque, welcomed and appreciated this show of solidarity with the victims. He recalled that the State has registered the participation of its partners, such as the Sonatel Foundation, which, after visiting several regions, is intervening in the Dakar region to support the State's action. "This assistance will affect the five departments of the Dakar region, namely Dakar, Pikine, Guédiawaye, Rufisque, and Keur Massar," he said.

In response to the public's pleas, the deputy prefect assured that the state is committed to providing assistance and supporting people for their well-being. "Solutions have been proposed to avoid such situations, including installing breakwaters and dikes to reduce the force of waves crashing over homes, but also to help people who have been affected for several years to find a roof over their heads," he argued.
