Investissement, conversion au gaz, performance et innovation dans ses centrales : La Senelec séduit les associations de consommateurs
The National Electricity Company (Senelec) operates in a constantly evolving environment, facing numerous political, socio-economic, and environmental challenges. These include the energy transition, driven by significant national gas discoveries, the liberalization and development of the regional electricity market, institutional reform, the adoption of new electricity and grid codes, and a new tariff plan. These factors have led to the adoption of a new vision: "By 2025, Senelec will be a high-performing and innovative public service company focused on cleaner energy." This vision is being realized through the ambitious projects and programs of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, which will primarily address the new challenges related to affordable electricity, the transition to gas, and operational efficiency in project management. And to enable consumers to understand these major issues, the general management of Senelec organised, on Tuesday 11 November 2025, a guided tour for consumer associations to the sites of the national dispatching (Mbao), Hann and Bel Air.
The C6 power plant in Bel Air has already been converted to gas
This visit, organized at the instruction of the Minister of Energy, Petroleum, and Mines, Birame Soulèye Diop, began at the Bel Air power plant. There, representatives of consumer associations, led by Mr. Momar Ndao, President of the Senegalese Consumers Association (Ascosen), were given a guided tour of this plant, the first to be converted to gas. Welcomed by Mr. Oumar Ndiaye, head of the Bel Air C6 plant, and Mr. Doudou Ndoye, Senior Production Director, the delegation first received a brief presentation of the site before touring all the electricity-generating equipment, whose capacity is estimated at 330 MW.
Significant investments have been made at the Hann site for efficient distribution.
After Bel Air, the delegation headed to Hann-Mariste, where the electricity distribution facilities are located. There, Momar Ndao and his colleagues were received by officials, including Mr. Omar Kébé, head of the Dakar maintenance and distribution department, and Mr. Mouhamadou Thiam, head of the network operations department. After presenting the electricity network service and addressing all concerns, they led a tour of the facilities with consumers, allowing them to see firsthand and better understand the innovations implemented.
It is worth recalling that the network operations department is a strategic department, responsible for the management and optimization of the MV and LV electrical network across the entire national territory. It ensures the operation, management and monitoring of the distribution network.
Major innovations for high-quality national dispatching
The delegation concluded its full-day visit in Mbao. They were welcomed there by Mr. Harouna Baldé, Director of System Operations and Procurement at Senelec. At this Senelec national dispatching center, Momar Ndao and his colleagues also received a detailed presentation on the entire electricity dispatching process.
In her presentation, Ms. Dieynaba Loum, head of the transmission network department, explained point by point the history of dispatching, its role and activities, dispatching tools, and key figures for the electricity system in Senegal. She also reviewed the evolution of electricity production, which has increased from 449 MW in 2011 to 1261 MW in 2025.
"We were very pleased to see that 'Gas to Power' is a reality."
Following this high-level visit, Momar Ndao and his colleagues expressed their satisfaction with the level of investment, performance, and innovations implemented by Senelec for the benefit of its customers. "We greatly appreciated the progress made, especially since we had already visited the dispatch center a few months after its creation. Today, we saw that the dispatch center is at an extremely advanced level in terms of the technologies used. Similarly, the central control room, where we saw that the video wall is at a different level of development than what we had seen before," Momar Ndao remarked.
He added: “So, since the last visit a few years ago, we’ve seen that efforts have been made in terms of investment to improve the quality of service offered to consumers. And this is a great source of national pride because, throughout this visit, we’ve seen Senegalese people in charge. We were very pleased to see, for example, that the C6 power plant now has gas connectivity. This means that ‘Gas to Power’ is a reality, and we see that, according to some estimates, this can lower the price per kWh by using gas.”

La Senelec séduit les "CORROMPUS" associations de consommateurs, voilà ce qu'il fallait écrire car les consommateurs sont très loin d'être satisfaits par la SENELEC qui volent ses clients et dont bcp de ses agents sont des corrompus qui demandent de l'argent aux clients pour leur installer un compteur Woyofal.
Un journaliste sérieux va d'abord tendre le micro aux consommateurs pour leur demander leur avis avant de prendre ceux des associations de consommateurs qui sont corrompus pour la plus part.
Faites le tour des quartiers et aller voir les nouveaux clients qui attendent un compteur et demandez leur pourquoi leur attente est si longue. Le prétexte de la Senelec est de leur dire qu'il y'a une pénurie de compteur Woyofal, c'est encore plus grave et plus inaccessible pour une entreprise qui a le monopôle et qui a le choix de ses fournisseurs.
Arrêtez donc vos singeries et respecter les consommateurs sénégalais !

L'essentiel c'est de nous dire à quand la baisse effective de l'électricité et pour quel taux
Macky est un génie. Tout ce qui marche dans ce pays porte sa marque de fabrique. Pourtant les inspecteurs des impôts nullards et analphabètes et leurs moutons ne cessent de le dénigrer. Heureusement que le peuple sénégalais est mature et intelligent pour ne pa se laisser manipuler par des délinquants politiques incapables de construire un poulailler.
