Ma Sané signe son grand retour sur la scène sénégalaise : "Je n’ai jamais abandonné la musique"

In the hall of the Palais des Arts where she rehearses with the Waflash orchestra, singer Ma Sané sets the tone for her live concert this Saturday, December 13th. Dressed in a jacket, the artist looks fantastic. Her voice is as melodious and energetic as ever. Her rehearsal promises to be a powerful performance.

A true icon of Senegalese music, Ma Sané is a force of nature on stage. She began her career with the group Waflash in 1990. Armed with her undeniable talent, she delivers a sound that blends mbalax, Afrobeat, bougarabou, and funk. With her artistic generosity, she has won over a large audience in Senegal and internationally, before settling in France.

A passionate, committed, and inspiring artist, Ma Sané returns to Senegal with a series of concerts and renewed energy. After several years away, she's back on the Senegalese music scene. She's here to win back her fans.

In an exclusive interview with Seneweb, Ma Sané shares his journey, his projects and his vision of the new music scene.

Having lived in France for several years, Ma Sané, an iconic member of the group Waflash, has announced a gradual return to the Senegalese music scene. This comeback is eagerly awaited by her fans, fueled by nostalgia and a love for her craft.

"My life changed. I got married, started a family, and moved to France. I had to embrace my life as a wife," she confides. Despite the distance, she always missed Thiès, Senegal, her fans, and friends. "We had an extraordinary experience. People loved our music. That compels me to come back to make them happy," she says.

The singer's return is becoming clearer after a promise made during her vacation in Thiès. "Many people thought I had given up music. That's why I'm coming back, to prove to them that Ma Sané is still here. I never gave up music," the artist confided.

Ma Sané clarifies that her break never meant giving up. "Even in France, I continued making music. I participated in festivals, I released an album... It's my job, I never stopped believing in it," she added.

Her return home is filled with emotion. For her, the Palais des Arts is a powerful symbol. "Coming back to sing here is about reconnecting with my roots," she confides.

Speaking about the breakup of her group after nearly 30 years in the business, she said: "There was a desire for change, everyone wanted to pursue their personal projects. It wasn't a sudden split, but a need for evolution."

Regarding the revival of the Waflash group, Ma Sané remains optimistic. "Why not a revival? All the members want to reunite. We're going to try to organize ourselves so that we can get together every six months or every year for concerts," she affirms.

Ma Sané has also announced several concert dates, including this December 13th at the Palais des Arts, while awaiting December 20th at Just 4 U in Dakar and May 2nd, 2025 in Paris.

On the current music scene, the singer observes: "There is a lot of talent, but few young people master traditional instruments. All young artists have the same style of music. Unlike our generation where each artist has their own style," she notes.

For her upcoming projects, Ma Sané is preparing a single, a new EP, and plans to celebrate her 30-year career in 2026, coinciding with Independence Day. She is therefore appealing to the authorities and the public to join her in this endeavor. "I invite everyone to celebrate this dignified anniversary with me."
