[Spécial 8 mars] Mame Walo : Le combat d’une « jiguen bou meun goor » entre TikTok et survie
On the occasion of International Women's Day, Seneweb pays tribute to single mothers, those who play the role of both mother and father. These everyday heroines are models of courage and determination. In addition to the enormous challenges they face every day—between work, bills, and responsibilities—they sacrifice their own interests to ensure a better future for their children.
In Senegal, businesswoman Mame Walo distinguished herself in the field of "jiguen bou meun goor" (warrior). A mother of three, this suburban resident gained attention through her numerous appeals for help in securing the release of her two imprisoned sons.
Without support, she can only rely on the magic of social media, particularly TikTok, where she now manages to sell her merchandise and talk about her children's situation. It's a far from easy platform for this illiterate mother, who is ultimately helped by her pre-teen daughter, who had to leave school to assist her in this business.
In this interview with Seneweb, Mame Walo looks back on her exhausting days marked by feelings of abandonment, loneliness and her eternal struggles for the well-being of her children.
