[En route pour la CAN] Ziara à la Zawiya de Cheikh Ahmed Tijani: Au cœur de la spiritualité Tijaniyya de à Fès
Nestled in a maze of winding alleyways in the heights of the medina of Fez, the former Merinid capital, the mausoleum of Sidi Ahmed Al Tijani remains one of the most frequented pilgrimage sites in Morocco. It is here, in this sanctuary steeped in history and contemplation, that the faithful of the Tijaniyya brotherhood converge each year to perform the Ziara, a powerful spiritual moment dedicated to the memory of the founder of the Tijaniyya Tariqa.
Near the zawiya, life revolves around a vibrant setting: bright embroidered boubous, finely carved rosaries, traditional djellabas, perfume and incense shops.
An atmosphere where cultural influence and religious fervor blend harmoniously. It reflects the diversity of pilgrims coming from Morocco, but also from all over West Africa, where the Tijani brotherhood exerts a considerable historical influence.
Founded in the 18th century by Sidi Ahmed Tijani, the Tijaniyya Sufi order finds its source and spiritual heart in Fez. The city, now recognized as the cultural and spiritual capital of the Kingdom, boasts an exceptional religious heritage: ancient mosques, prestigious madrasas, and emblematic zawiyas, which reinforce its status as a major center of Sufism and spiritual tourism.
Every day, thousands of pilgrims gather at the tomb of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani. Sidi Chérif Zoubir Tijani, grandson and current Khalif of the Sheikh, recounts for Seneweb the history of the zawiya and that of the founder of the brotherhood.
