Un an de détention : Le Fouta dédie une journée de prières à Farba Ngom
To mark the first anniversary (February 27, 2025 – February 27, 2026) of the detention of Farba Ngom, the mayor and member of parliament for the Agnam commune, the Committee for Popular Resistance for the Liberation of Farba Ngom organized a day of prayers dedicated to him on Friday, February 27. This important gathering, held at the Agnam Ouro Ciré mosque, mobilized the entire population of Fouta and beyond, particularly those from the Matam region. It included recitations of the Quran and prayers for the release of this son of Fouta, who has been held in pretrial detention since February 27, 2025, in the 125 billion CFA franc case.
The Quran was read 700 times and prayers were recited.
Fouta remains steadfast in its fight for the release of its son, Farba Ngom. Every day since his detention, the people have continued to carry out peaceful actions to demonstrate their unwavering support for him. It is within this context that the Committee for Popular Resistance, which brings together political leaders from Fouta, the 26 communes of the Matam region, and 22 communes and departments of Podor, held this day of prayer in Agnam Ouro Ciré, in the commune of Agnam. Organized under the auspices of Fouta's religious leaders, the day mobilized the entire population, including religious leaders, traditional chiefs, neighborhood representatives, mayors, members of parliament, and non-partisan individuals.
On this occasion, the participants, made up of young people, adults, and the elderly, recited the Holy Quran 700 times. They also offered prayers for their son to be released in peace and serenity.
It should be recalled that the mayor and member of parliament for Agnam was initially prosecuted for embezzlement of public funds and money laundering involving 125 billion CFA francs. Following this case, Farba Ngom is being prosecuted again on other charges, for which his parliamentary immunity was lifted on February 16th at the National Assembly.
