Sécurité intérieure : Ousmane Sonko érige la police en pilier du développement
During a visit to the General Directorate of the National Police on Tuesday, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko affirmed that internal security is an essential prerequisite for the economic and social development of Senegal, while advocating for rigorous and transparent management of public resources.
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko began a series of visits to major civil and military state services with a trip to the National Police Directorate. He described this choice as strategic, emphasizing the central role of the police in preserving national stability. Addressing the institution's leaders, the Prime Minister reiterated that, despite its reputation as a stable country, Senegal remains exposed to multiple and transnational security threats. He specifically mentioned drug trafficking, organized crime, cybercrime, and terrorism, which he considered major challenges to national security.
For him, strengthening internal security is an essential condition for any development dynamic. "There is no development without sufficient security," he declared on Tuesday, emphasizing that security now represents a strong social expectation and a major challenge for public governance.
The Prime Minister also framed his security vision within a framework of breaking with certain past management practices. He referred to the budgetary legacy left by the previous regime, which he considers restrictive, particularly regarding what he deems the opaque management of public resources. According to him, building a high-performing and secure state depends on adherence to principles of rigor, discipline, and transparency.
He considers this approach essential for sustainably strengthening the operational capabilities of the defense and security forces and ensuring an appropriate response to new forms of threats. Through this visit, the head of government demonstrates his commitment to placing internal security at the heart of strategic public policy priorities, directly linking it to the country's economic and social development goals.
