Sécurité à l’UCAD : Me Bamba Cissé révèle l'existence d'un projet de destruction des restaurants
In the aftermath of the violence at the university that claimed the life of student Abdoulaye Ba, the Minister of the Interior, Bamba Cissé, expressed his "deepest sympathy" to the students, university staff, families, and the entire academic community. This statement was made on Tuesday during the government press briefing at the Administrative Building.
For Mr. Bamba Cissé, the university must absolutely remain a space for knowledge. The minister reiterated his principled stance on the institution's mission: "The university must remain a place of learning, dialogue, and development, not a space of violence or fear," he insisted, while acknowledging the shock and outrage sparked by this tragedy. He also announced the opening of an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the death: "The full truth will be uncovered regarding these incidents," he assured.
Information on vandalism projects
To justify the security deployment, the minister revealed that the government had received concerning information. According to him, "intelligence regarding potential destruction was provided to the government." He specified that "the defense and security forces (FDS) were present on campus to prevent acts of vandalism targeting university infrastructure."
The minister stated that intelligence indicated a plan to destroy the university restaurant. "Specific information indicates that some people were planning to attack the social campus infrastructure," he explained, referring to targeted assault attempts early in the morning of the events.
Mr. Bamba Cissé concluded by arguing that the presence of law enforcement was aimed exclusively at protecting public property belonging to all Senegalese, and not at hindering academic freedoms.
