THIÈS : L'Ansd en communion avec la population pour sensibiliser sur l'importance de la statistique
November 18th marks African Statistics Day. This year, the Thiès region hosted the event, which the African statistical community has celebrated since the 1990s. The theme of this edition is: "Harnessing innovations in data and statistics to promote a much more inclusive, much fairer and much more prosperous society for Africans".
On the occasion of this celebration, a CRD dedicated to this day was held today at the Thiès governorate.
According to Abdou Diouf, Director General of the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD), the unique aspect of this 2025 edition is the activity that will take place on November 19th at the Mbour 1 Elementary School (Thiès). He believes this day will provide an opportunity to connect with students and raise awareness among all stakeholders at the local level about the importance of statistics, as well as to strengthen statistical literacy.
"Statistical data is the basis of all decision-making and sound public policy directions. This day is an opportunity for Statistics to come together with all stakeholders to find the best possible answers to the concerns of all users," said Mr. Diouf.
He added that this celebration is aimed at bringing the statistics produced closer to the users and the local areas.
