Mort de trois ouvriers sur un R+8 à Sacré-Cœur : Une entreprise au banc des accusés
A tragedy struck the Sacré-Cœur 2 neighborhood on Sunday, April 5th. Three workers lost their lives and a fourth was seriously injured after a crane collapsed at a construction site for an eight-story building, according to Seneweb sources. Alerted, officers from the Dieuppeul district police station went to the scene.
Witness statements from security guards and initial findings from investigators have allowed authorities to reconstruct the tragedy. The crane supporting the workers, who were in the middle of their job, collapsed, causing them to fall to their deaths. Firefighters, who arrived quickly, evacuated the bodies and the injured man to the hospital.
Police in Dieuppeul immediately issued orders for autopsies and medical treatment. The identified victims are S. Thioune (31 years old), P. Diallo (31 years old), and O. Mané (44 years old), a formwork carpenter. The identity of the fourth injured worker has not yet been established.
But beyond the human tragedy, a damning picture emerges against Company E., a subsidiary of the CEO, which was in charge of the work. The investigation revealed a series of serious breaches of basic safety rules: no protective helmets for the workers; no safety belts worn; and no safety measures implemented by the project manager to prevent this type of accident.
The heads of the two companies, who were summoned, have still not appeared before the police.
Prosecutor Ibrahima Ndoye, head of the prosecutor's office at the Dakar High Court, has been informed and an investigation is underway.
