Tivaouane: The Sonatel Foundation deploys internet and Wi-Fi at the Grand Mosque and trains 100 young people

Tivaouane : La Fondation Sonatel déploie internet et le Wi-Fi à la Grande Mosquée et forme 100 jeunes

The Sonatel Foundation, in partnership with the Jama-Atoun-Assouniya association, officially received on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the digital modernization work of the Great Mosque of Tivaouane and several surrounding places of worship.

The ceremony took place in the presence of religious and administrative authorities of the holy city, as well as Mrs. Awa Niang, Director of Communication and External Relations of Sonatel, representing the Director General, Brelotte Ba.

Thanks to funding from the Sonatel Foundation, the project now provides the religious site with comprehensive connectivity, including telephone, high-speed internet, and Wi-Fi, along with the necessary equipment. This infrastructure aims to strengthen the spiritual influence of Tivaouane, while improving the organization and security of large religious gatherings, particularly the upcoming Mawlid celebration scheduled for August.

Alongside this inauguration, Sonatel, through Orange Digital Center, also launched a training program for 100 young people from Tivaouane, focused on entrepreneurship and artificial intelligence.

“For Sonatel, connectivity is not just a technology; it is a tool for transmitting knowledge, bringing people closer together and creating opportunities,” said Awa Niang.

Speaking on behalf of the Caliph General of the Tijaniyya order, Serigne Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Sy welcomed this initiative, describing it as a moment of joy and gratitude. Conveying the thanks of Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour, he emphasized the strategic importance of this system for the activities of the religious community and major events in the city of Tivaouane, before offering prayers for the success of Sonatel and its foundation.

Through this initiative, the Sonatel Foundation reaffirms its commitment to digital citizenship and the socio-economic, cultural and religious development of Senegal.

L'africain met toujours la charrue avant les boeufs. La connexion à Internet est plus utile dans les écoles que que dans une mosquée.

Vous devez vraiment cesser de vous approprier ce qui ne relève pas de vos compétences ; vous êtes les seuls à parler de formation parmi les opérateurs qui commercialisent des kits réseau préfabriqués et des équipements achetés en Chine auprès de fabricants comme Nokia, Ericsson et Huawei, qui nous parlent de prétendues formations pour les jeunes afin de se donner l'image d'une entreprise technologique, alors que vous menez des activités purement commerciales avec des services hors de prix, tandis que vous achetez votre matériel là où d'autres le font.

Que vient faire internet dans une mosquée. Offrez Aux lycées le wifi ils en ont vraiment besoin. Vos opérations de charme n'ont aucun fondement.
