Touba : Les garanties du préfet pour un Magal 2026 « dans de très bonnes conditions »
The prefect of Mbacké, Khadim Hann, presided yesterday Wednesday at the Touba Mosque town hall over the departmental development committee (CDD) dedicated to the preparations for the Grand Magal of Touba 2026. The meeting brought together all the services concerned, the mayor of Touba Abdou Lahat Ka as well as the Magal organizing committee represented by its coordinator Serigne Ousmane Mbacké Gaïndé Fatma.
At the end of the meeting, the prefect sought to reassure everyone: "I would like to express my complete satisfaction and guarantee that, this year, the Grand Magal of Touba will take place under very good conditions."
The discussions focused on water, sanitation, health, security, and other strategic sectors. Regarding health and security, Khadim Hann expressed confidence, emphasizing that these two areas have never presented major difficulties.
"Free medical care has always been provided to pilgrims in need of treatment," he recalled, adding that "thanks to the work done by the defense and security forces, the criminals' actions have been contained."
Water: a marked improvement since last year
On the issue of water supply, the prefect acknowledged past difficulties while praising the progress made. "Since last year, we have seen a marked improvement in the water supply to the population," he stated, specifying that these results were achieved thanks to the construction of two 6,000 m³ reservoirs in the municipality of Touba Mosquée, as well as new boreholes.
"This year, four new boreholes have been constructed. One of them is already operational and the others will be in the coming days," he assured.
Sanitation: a 15 billion project to permanently resolve flooding
Regarding sanitation, the prefect acknowledged that the pumping system had shown its limitations, justifying the implementation of a complementary gravity drainage project. "This project, amounting to 15 billion CFA francs, will allow the water to drain towards the Sine Valley and definitively resolve the flooding problem in the municipality of Touba Mosquée," he explained.
To date, 2.2 km of slabs have already been laid out of a total length of 8 km. "The government's objective is for this project to be operational before the end of July," he stated.
Roads: 17 deteriorated roads to be rehabilitated before the Magal
Regarding road infrastructure, the authorities acknowledged traffic difficulties in certain areas of the municipalities of Mbacké and Touba caused by the deterioration of the road network due to flooding in recent years. "Ageroute has committed to rehabilitating the damaged roads. A total of 17 roads have been identified," he stated.
He announced that a meeting would be held before the end of May, bringing together the local authorities of Mbacké and Touba, Ageroute and Touba Ca Kanam, in order to find ways and means to rehabilitate these roads before the Grand Magal of Touba 2026.
