According to the Association of Senegalese Women Jurists (AJS), women represent nearly 70% of the agricultural workforce and provide more than 80% of food production. However, only 6% of women own a plot of land. These are serious shortcomings that must be addressed, first and foremost, through awareness campaigns. This is at least the opinion of Seynabou Diouf, a member of the AJS and head of mission for the Land Registry and Land Tenure Security Project (PROCASEF).

According to Ms. Diouf, speaking in Ziguinchor, socio-cultural norms continue to hinder the effective implementation of legal texts guaranteeing equal access to land. Furthermore, women remain disproportionately affected by various forms of violence, whether within the family, in the community, in public spaces, or in the workplace.

With AJS chosen from among the members of the framework for reflection and action on the offensive in Senegal to lead the component "Gender-based violence, exploitation, sexual abuse, sexual harassment and access to land for offensive women", Seynabou Diouf indicates that actors must be trained on these issues, in order to carry out advocacy.

"Advocacy consists, first of all, of training actors, especially within the framework of this project, so that they can put in place concrete actions to support women to own land and also to combat gender-based violence. This violence is sometimes linked to access to land," said the member of the Association of Senegalese Women Jurists.

Mamadou Alpha Ba, environment, social and gender specialist at PROCASEF in Ziguinchor, explains that it is about strengthening land governance institutions, training actors in land matters, and providing technical support to municipalities so that they can register land allocation titles for rural populations.

In Ziguinchor, he points out, a percentage of enrollment cannot be presented, but that of the eight communes chosen, only two have not yet been the subject of an intervention.
