SomaliNet) Senegal’s police have arrested Jean-Paul Dias, the head of Centrist Bloc, an opposition party in Senegal. Dias’ arrest follows his failure to honor summons from Senegal’s police.
"We were woken up at 6.10am by the police and my husband was arrested and taken away in a small van. I don't know where exactly he is," the wife of arrested Dias said. She also showed journalists in Senegal the wounds he acquired during the arrest of her husband.
Senegal’s police, however, say that nothing illegal happened during the arrest of Dias. Senegal’s police’s spokesperson says that the arrest was done “entirely correctly, in conformity with the law.”
Also speaking on behalf of Senegal’s police, he (the spokesperson) said, "The arrest of Jean-Paul Dias, on the orders of the judicial authorities, followed his refusal to reply to a summons from the criminal investigations department.”
Dias got into trouble with Senegal’s police after defending his son, Barthelemy, who criticized Senegalese president, Abdoulaye Wade. Dias said on a local radio station in Senegal that he would not allow the arrest of his son, who is a member of another opposition party in Senegal.
