Scam: She takes out several loans using the papers of her family members, including those of her deceased mother

Escroquerie : Elle contracte plusieurs prêts en utilisant les papiers des membres de sa famille, dont ceux de sa mère décédée

Astou Ndiaye is on trial before the Mbour High Court for fraud involving 6,935,000 CFA francs. The case has sent shockwaves through his family, particularly because of the methods used to secure the loans.

According to testimony, the defendant borrowed money in the name of several members of her family, including her mother who had died four years ago.

In court, Astou Ndoaye said she took her relatives' national identity cards (CIN) to obtain birth certificates for her four children. She admitted to having borrowed only 950,000 CFA francs, not the amount she is accused of borrowing.

The facts date back to February 2025. She explains that she gave the CINs to a certain Mariétou Faye for her to keep and not for loans taken out in the name of all the people cited by the complainant Marième.

But the presiding judge noted inconsistencies in his statements. "The law allows you to deny it, but we will face the consequences," she told him.

The file mentions ten legalized identity documents. Astou Ndiaye maintains that she only provided five. The prosecutor questioned her about the usefulness of entrusting these documents to Mariétou Faye rather than keeping them in her personal cabinet. The prosecution therefore considers that her statements do not hold water.

During the investigation, Astou also allegedly admitted to receiving two rams worth a total of 540,000 CFA francs, which she then sold. But in court, she denied taking the sheep. She is also accused of taking a loan of 1,300,000 CFA francs from Rokhaya Diop, Mariétou's daughter.

The plaintiff's lawyer, Mr. Sène, argues that Astou Ndiaye's statements are far-fetched. "The documents were legalized on different dates, as were the loans. She fraudulently used documents in the names of people who were not present, some of whom can no longer testify because they are deceased," Mr. Sène argued.

The prosecution is adamant: this is indeed a fraud based on lies. Without the fraudulently provided documents, the loans would never have been granted. He points out that she even used her deceased mother's ID, which makes her case worse.

The prosecution has requested a two-year prison sentence for Astou Ndiaye, who is considered to be a woman of bad faith.

The verdict is expected on August 19, 2025.
